Your Device isn’t Compatible with this Version

Sometimes using Gapps and Google Play Store is a major pain in the neck. From time to time when updating the rom or flashing a new one you might stumble over the dreaded “Your Device isn’t Compatible with this Version” message.

No matter what you do, your Netflix (or any other app) either don’t show up in the search at all or they do show but you can’t download them. But you really like your apps… and your Netflix…

You went to the Netflix Help centre page and went through all their suggested fixes and workarounds there :

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/12983

No joy…

You also spent time on Google (maybe like 2 minutes) trying to search for the error .

You went to the official Google Play Help Center just to find out that they don’t care and that you really are on your own because they do have the lovely habit of avoiding difficult questions like these .

You will find that most of the questions are locked and replying has been disabled.

And here you are again, back to square one, all confused and annoyed.

Right, fear not for Gorilla and ArrowOS have your back. Is time to get acquainted with Aurora Store  and find out what it is, and how can it help you to get your apps.

Aurora Store is an open-source alternative for Google Play Store. So what does that mean? That means Aurora Store gives you the ability to search ,download, install and update apps from the Google Play Store. That means you are not at the mercy of the Google Play Store anymore and you just found a way to bypass all those restrictions Google Play Store has imposed on you. Happy days…!

All you have to do is to head over to F-droid —–> https://www.f-droid.org/ (which also gives you the ability to search ,download, install and update apps from F-droid store which is a pure open source App Store) and install the last version of the Aurora Store. ——->

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.aurora.store/

It looks something like that:

Once you have installed it (Make sure that under installation method you select session installer if you are not rooted )

The next thing to do is to go through setup. that’s pretty much self explanatory and it should not require more explanations .

Quick note: Assuming you are in a region of the planet where internet IS expensive and not always working properly, it might be a sensible precaution to take measures to ensure that you don’t have to download these apps over and over again.

Aurora Store gives you the possibility to save the downloaded APK. You just have to enable that setting.

Now , in order to make sure Aurora Store ALWAYS saves a copy of the downloaded apk.

Go to settings :

Under “Settings” go to “Downloads” and make sure you chose “User external storageAFTER THE INITIAL SETTING WAS DONE BEFORE STARTING THE DOWNLOAD OF THE APK.

Do not forget to also turn off the “Delete APK post-install” setting.

That way you will make sure that the apk gets saved on your phone, you get easy access to it and NEXT TIME YOU WON’T HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN.

During the initial set up you will be asked to enable the external storage, but even if you do, for some reason the slider does not get turned on automatically, so it has to be done manually.

The downloaded apks reside in a folder in your internal memory called Aurora.

Inside the Aurora folder you will find an other one called Storage.

The full path is given below:

/storage/emulated/0/Aurora/Store/Downloads .

It will look something like that:

Well, there you have it. Now you know...

I normally use this method to get my APK’s from the playstore on my pure vanilla builds (no Google Play Services installed).

These days there are other ways to access Google Play Store and get your apps straight from Google.

Now, just a quick word of advice :

I normally do not use my own Google account for the Aurora store and chose to use their Anonymous login account provided as it works quite well for me , and this way my own account , is safe.

Have a look here:

If you do chose to use your own account you need to make sure you read the part where it says:

However, you may want to be careful as Google retains full rights to block any account under their Google Play Terms of Service §4 (opens new window),
